5 Foods to Help With A Clear Mind and Better Concentration

More and more science shows that your diet can have a huge impact on brain function. While we’ve known for a few decades that certain foods may improve mental sharpness, researchers have even begun to discover that your diet might even affect your mood.

With so many different options available at the local grocer, here are five foods that can improve your mental clarity.

1. Fatty Fish

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in salmon, mackerel, sardines, trout, herring and numerous other fish. Omega-3s have been studied for quite some time to show better memory, behavioral function and mental performance in those who make them a regular part of their diet. Omega-3s can also be found in pill form, but for those who enjoy seafood, this is just one more reason to eat fish more often.

2. Blueberries

These small, sweet berries are high in specific antioxidants and nutrients that boost memory and concentration, particularly within a five-hour window after they are eaten. This tiny serving of fruit, when eaten a few times a week is even shown to lessen the likelihood of cancer and dementia. Plus, how often do you get to eat something that is both blue and good for you?

3. Flax Seeds

High in magnesium, B-vitamins, fiber and other healthy nutrients, flax is a superfood shown to increase mental clarity. They’ll need to be ground up before they are eaten, but can be sprinkled over almost any sweet breakfast, dessert or snack.

4. Oregano

This dried herb that can go over most savory foods has been shown to prevent neuron death (good for your brain), reduce inflammation in the brain (really good for your brain), preserve cognitive function and even boost attention. Dried oregano is high in Luteolin, a compound filled with antioxidants and other properties that make it great for your mind and overall health.

5. Parsley

Another herb that contributes to overall mental wellness, parsley is high in apigenin which preserves neurovascular function, boosts memory, improves blood flow and fights aging in the brain.
